Problem solving begins with having a good problem statement. Think about and answer the questions related to the who, what, when, where, why, and how much. The more time you spend upfront putting a good problem statement together the easier it will be to solve the problem. Avoid knee-jerk reactions and band-aid solutions. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and talk to the people who work in the process everyday. Chances are they have a good idea of what goes on and can steer you in the right direction.
